When a homeowner was looking to upgrade their existing hot water system, the ECOflow heat pump cylinder provided the perfect solution providing rapid reheat performance.
BACKGROUND
Martin Donnelly, owner of MD Plumbing and Heating Limited based in North West London, was looking for the ideal hot water solution when his customer wanted their heating system upgraded. They previously had two 36kw Ideal Mexico boilers and two 140 litre vented cylinders.
As their children had all left home and it was just the two of them in the property, they didn’t require such a high volume of stored hot water daily. However, they frequently had guests over to stay and still required the higher capacity of hot water, when needed. The customer wants to be able to run two baths at once as their worst-case scenario.
SOLUTION
The solution for them was to install a 37kw Vaillant boiler, to be run on highly efficient weather compensation controls and priority hot water. The installer wanted a cylinder which was small in size but with a specific coil heat exchanger that could handle the maximum output of the 37kw boiler but also heat the stored water up as quickly as possible. With these specific requirements, the only cylinder that came close to this specification was the ECOflow 150L unvented heat pump cylinder. The cylinder instantly proved it was up to the job, providing the hot water to both baths with hot water still available at the taps.
The installer carried out his own performance test, heating the cylinder up to temperature and turning the boiler off so that the cylinder wasn’t charging while hot water was being drawn off. The two baths were only half full before the water being delivered had cooled, demonstrating just how effective and efficient the coil in the cylinder is at providing the reheat performance to supply large amounts of hot water in periods of high demand.
