Gloucestershire College ordered four bespoke POWERflow cylinders and two 500L Copper Buffer Vessels for their three main campuses in Cheltenham, Gloucester and the Forest of Dean.
The units were used in conjunction with heat pump input, using the buffer stores as a preheat system which was then delivered into the POWERflow cylinders to be taken up to full temperature. This design reduces the energy required whilst meeting the hot water requirements, just another unique solution offered by McDonald Water Storage.
Built to the customers exact specifications, not only from a size perspective but also optional components, each of the 600 litre direct unvented cylinders comprised of three 18kW WR type immersion heaters, 15mm de-strat pump and timer, two 100mm temperature gauges, one pressure gauge, the necessary safety and control valves, and incorporated an inspection manhole for ease of maintenance. The cylinders were insulated with 50mm rockwool and galvanised casing.
The 500L buffer vessels included 8.42m2 integron coils to maximise the heat transfer from the store to the cold water passing through the coil, 100mm dial temperatures and pressure gauges, anti vacuum valves, and insulated the same as the POWERflow units with 50mm of rockwool and galvanised casing.
