It was a fantastic opportunity to welcome Jenny Gilruth, MSP, to our production facility at head office in Glenrothes. She spent time with managing director of McDonald Water Storage, Jamie Stewart, to get an insight into our operations.
Jenny was provided an insight into the manufacturing side of the business, where the copper smiths showed off their skills in brazing and cylinder manufacturing. Whilst the full range of cylinders were on show, there was particular interest in the thermal store ranges, which are seen as the product of the future allowing for energy storage.
Managing Director Jamie Stewart added:
“We were very happy to show Jenny Gilruth round our manufacturing facility in Glenrothes and show the wide range hot water storage cylinders and tanks that we manufacture.
With the current focus on reducing carbon and using more electricity from renewables, it was great to be able to discuss the many benefits of storing energy in hot water. Allowing load shifting – taking energy at times when there is a surplus and thus a reduced cost, is a key way to help those in fuel poverty, when heat pumps and other forms of heating are just not suitable.
We look forward to working with the Scottish Government to be at the forefront of thermal storage.”
Jenny Gilruth MSP commented:
“It is always rewarding to see a thriving business right here in the constituency, especially one with such a longstanding history. Jamie and his colleagues are clearly very skilled at what they do, and I thoroughly enjoyed being shown around their factory.
Scottish businesses such as McDonald Water Storage will be crucial towards meeting our goals to decarbonise the economy and respond to the climate crisis, and it was great to see first-hand the work that they are carrying out locally.”
