Maryhill Housing Association were replacing outdated storage heaters and open-vented hot water cylinders in 578 properties across high-rise, deck access, and low-rise housing stock at MHA’s Glenavon Road, Cumlodden Estate, Skirsa Court and Cadder Place sites.
BACKGROUND
The Association’s main objective was to not only provide tenants with a more energy efficient, controllable, and affordable heating system, but in addition, improve the original hot water system which offered poor performance in terms of efficiency and water pressure, which is why the Association chose McDonald Water Storage MULTIflow and MULTIflow+ thermal storage ranges, which not only met the hot water requirements but also fit the available space within each apartment.
SOLUTION
Prior to the start of the project, Mike Smith at McDonald Water Storage worked with both the Housing Association and Installers to specify the perfect thermal store solution to meet the residents requirements along with utilising the available space for the units. Following the specification being agreed, we also attended a residents meeting to explain what the new units were and how they operated, and answer any questions before any work started on the properties.
Specifying McDonald’s thermal store range not only solved the Association’s energy efficiency and water pressure issues, but also prevents the need for any on-going maintenance associated with unvented cylinders.
Most of the properties were able to accommodate the MULTIflow product, however the MULTIflow+ range was specified in the Association’s deck-accessed properties as they had restricted space availability. The MULTIflow+ also provided the perfect solution as the cylinder was able to be bespoke designed, not only with slimline models but also moving tapping positions to suit the individual apartment requirements.
TESTIMONIALS
Adam Devine, Property Investment Manager, Maryhill Housing Association
Adam Devine commented “Following a successful pilot programme of installing McDonald Water Storage MULTIflow thermal stores, we have progressed installations to 578 properties across our high-rise, deck-access, and low-rise properties.”
“We have received nothing but great feedback from residents with all reporting enough hot water to run a full bath and more storage space in their cupboards. The team at McDonald Water Storage have also been incredible and always willing to answer any questions we have.”
