BACKGROUND
The PLATEflow technology provided the ideal solution when Lothian Heating Services Ltd. came to us as a matter of urgency, when their client, The Best Western Kings Manor Hotel in Edinburgh’s current hot water storage facility had failed. The busy hotel required a solution immediately as they were letting their customers down by not being able to provide them with hot running water.
SOLUTION
The PLATEflow was the best option for them taking the size of the hotel and its demand for hot water into consideration.
The PLATEflow is part of our commercial water heater range, and is designed to supply hot water in situations where demand can vary over the course of a day, making it perfect for hotels, hospitals and factories etc. The PLATEflow system comprises a brazed plate heat exchanger, prepiped and mounted on a buffer vessel. With the hot water being delivered by both the boiler system in conjunction with the cylinder, the system effectively decreases the amount of stored hot water required, while still delivering peak flow rates as demanded.
They ordered a 400 Litre unit which was supplied pre-assembled to their exact specification, reducing installation and commissioning time. They also asked us to turn the unit around as quickly as possible and we managed to manufacture the commercial calorifier and have it delivered in under one week!
Built as a local Lairds house in around 1840 ‘Rosemount’ remained a substantial family home till the 1870s when it became the home of Anglican nuns who created their own Chapel in the grounds. The nuns cared for ‘young ladies in need of care and protection’ . The ‘young ladies ‘ operated a popular laundry that funded the convent. It was bought by the Park Family in the mid 1950s who created a popular hotel ’The Milton House’ which was famed for its weekend dances.
It was bought by the hotel arm of Belhaven Brewery for a short time who renamed it Kings Manor. The hotel was sold to the Solley family in 1976 who have owned and operated it since that time.
