At McDonald Water Storage, we feel it is paramount to invest in training of the next generation of coppersmiths, even though the cylinder industry has seen a gradual transition over to automated manufacturing techniques.
Our latest protege is 16 year old Bailey McGrouther, who has been with us nearly six months, joining us in 29th November 2021. Starting as a junior production worker, the first steps are always in the insulation section, learning to cut out and understand the different tanks going through production. His passion for learning has seen him wanting to be involved in a wide range of production areas including casing calorifiers, brazing CUBEflow header tanks, working on the guillotine and Amada punching machine.
David Stewart, Operations Manager said “Baileys training development has now, 6 months after joining the company, led to brazing cylinders under the teams guidance, and the manufacture of his first 900mm x 400mm Indirect Grade 3 cylinder.”
“Whilst we can provide complete training on all aspects of copper cylinder and tank manufacture, it is beyond our understanding how he consumes more cans of fizzy pop during a day than anyone I have ever known and stays in peak physical fitness!”
