When Edinburgh Castle’s existing gas fired cylinder was found to be leaking and the parts required for replacement had a four month lead time, they needed a resolution as a matter of urgency. With Christmas just around the corner and a jam packed schedule of events, they simply couldn’t wait for the unit to be repaired and a replacement was the only answer … this is where we stepped in with a solution.
Our manufacturing team at McDonald Water Storage produced a bespoke 825L Vented PLATEflow cylinder with 25m maximum working head, which had an overall size of 1850mm x 920mm and incorporated a 100kW plate heat exchanger, 2″ cold feed and hot water draw offs, 1.25″ secondary return, two temperature gauges and 250mm inspection manhole. In addition, the unit was provided with a removable galvanised casing to help on installation.
The installer specified bespoke connections to match the existing cylinder and this ensured the fastest possible install and in turn massively reducing down time. The cylinder was designed to suit the installers requirements and we had it turned around and delivered to site within one week.
Edinburgh Castle is one of the oldest fortified places in Europe. With a long rich history as a royal residence, military garrison, prison and fortress. It is now a world-famous visitor attraction and an iconic part of the Old and New Towns of Edinburgh World Heritage Site. It is also partly used as a military barracks and the military presence remains unbroken – Edinburgh Castle is still an active base today. It also houses three military museums, the Scottish National War Memorial and the Prisons of War exhibition.
