Bespoke copper Calorifier provides the perfect solution for NHS Lyng Centre
BACKGROUND
The Lyng Centre in West Bromwich were looking to upgrade their twenty-year-old Calorifiers which had served their effective working life.
SOLUTION
Working alongside Midland Commercial Environmental Services Ltd (MCES) and their client Primary Health Properties Group (PHP), a quote was presented to supply them with three custom made calorifiers with a capacity of 600 Litres each.
MCES have worked with us at McDonald Water Storage on numerous occasions in the past where systems needed to conform to HTM04 requirements and be of an exceptional standard. When cylinders are specified for NHS installations, the Health Team Memorandum 04-01, a department of health document outlines the requirement for safe water within healthcare premises. Our expert commercial water heater specialists are happy to advise on the HTM04-01 requirements, in addition to providing the optimum design for the installation. The HTM04 documents primary requirement is that all hot water storage vessels used on NHS premises are to be manufactured in copper – which is what we are known for!
The install of each calorifier started with an extension to the existing concrete base. The installation of the new control panel that had been purposely designed and made for the project incorporated power meters for the 6 x 9kw immersion heaters and current switches providing the running of the secondary DHW pump and the destratification pumps that were sized and pre-installed. They came as packaged units with all the installation packs included ie pressure regulating valves / check valves / pressure gauges and safety valves. The secondary pump was fitted separately.
All of these controls were fed back into the existing BMS allowing us to control and manage pasteurisation temperatures and times meaning flow temperatures and secondary return temperatures could all be monitored.
The calorifiers were then plumbed in using the boosted cold water main directly feeding though the pressure regulating valves and the flow through expansion vessels into the calorifiers. Outlets were plumbed individually but entered a common header before leaving the plant room to feed the down services.The secondary pipework was controlled via a dab inverter pump branching to the three calorifiers and balanced via balancing valves and commissioning stations.
