Following nearly 19 years with McDonald Water Storage, our Production Manager Brian Patrick is looking forward to the start of his retirement.
Brian originally started his working life as a forklift driver at a mushroom factory when he was 17, until he had a bad motorcycle accident and was off work for almost a year due to injuries. Following this, he has had a varied career including building bypasses and making supermarket trolleys.
Then in September 2005 he received the call from Bill Stewart asking if he would be interested in a production managers position at McDonald, an interview was arranged and after a couple of meetings he accepted the position.
Brian has seen many changes in this time with the production starting to become more automated with the Amada CNC Punch Machine, and due to increased demand, the factory was extended by 10,000sq.ft. Other key initiatives Brian implemented including ISO9001 Quality Management and various lean Six Sigma projects continually improving efficiencies and reduce waste. Brians production management contributed to McDonald Water Storage winning the Best Fife Family Business award in 2023.
Brian commented “I have now been here 19 years this year and it has been a great pleasure being part of the company as it has gone through some big changes and grown in to what it is today, I would like to Thank Bill and Jamie for giving me what has been the best part of my working life, I wish you all the very best for the future. I have made a lot of good friends while I have been with McDonald Water Storage and I will miss you all.”
Jamie Stewart, managing director, said “Brian filled a new role for the company as Production Manager, where previously we had a works foreman. This made a huge impact on improving production, quality, health and safety and also communication between office and factory. We have certainly seen some massive changes over the 19 years since Brian arrived, in the types of hot water storage that we offer and Brian has played an integral part in this change. Always a pleasure to work with he will be very much missed by the team and we wish him a long and happy retirement.”
