McDonald Water Storage have proven again to be the hot water solution provider, utilising our unique bespoke manufacturing capability to supply cylinders for UK heat pump specialists.

In conjunction with Kensa heat pumps, we have manufactured a wide range of products to provide the hot water solutions to work with the 65 degree temperatures delivered by the ground source heat pumps. This is where copper provides fantastic benefits including superior heat transfer, but with the flexibility to bespoke design the cylinder or internal coil, to suit the application.
The cylinders provided have ranged from a simple vented cylinder sized to suit the space available to a specifically designed ECOflow unvented heat pump cylinder and buffer store, where the length of the internal integron copper coil was increased to maximise the temperature delivered from the heat pump.
However, high rise apartment blocks can prove problematic as it is almost impossible to install the discharge pipework to comply with G3 of the building regulations necessary for unvented solutions. Therefore, a thermal store provides the perfect hot water solution, with the immense benefits that go with them. With the temperature supplied from the heat pump being lower than the level required for a thermal store, a specially designed coil was incorporated to ensure the maximum amount of domestic hot water was generated for the property.
The thermal store provided Kensa with the perfect solution on a recent project for Together Housing at Daisyfields, Blackburn, overcoming the discharge pipework problem and ultimately reducing the installation cost. In addition, the housing management companies and residents did not have the ongoing expense of annual maintenance, which is required with unvented cylinder alternative.
