MULTIflow saves the day for one of our installation customers, providing them with the perfect solution to their requirements for a replacement thermal store solution.
BACKGROUND
Midland Boilercare Ltd
received a phone call from their client who had a problematic thermal store in the form of a Gledhill BoilerMate 2000. With more than 20yrs experience of specialising in the installation, service and repair of open vented and sealed system thermal storage units, without hesitation, David Hickey of Midland Boilercare Ltd sent out one of their experienced service engineers to inspect the unit but unfortunately for their client, the existing thermal store had developed a leak from the internal tank that was beyond repair, resulting in the unit requiring complete replacement.
SOLUTION
With limited space within the airing cupboard for the replacement thermal store, they had no hesitation in recommending our MULTIflow open vented thermal store.
The spacing within the MULTIflow open vented casing is ideal for the routing of pipework behind the front panel which keeps the whole installation aesthetically pleasing, even when installing it as a retrofit for an alternative manufacturer’s product.
With an internal cylinder manufactured from copper and encased in a high-quality powder coated casing, its rectangular shape makes it a great replacement for all types of direct and indirect thermal stores. With a highly efficient internal coil providing mains pressured hot water via a simple thermostatic blending valve, the MULTIflow is exceptionally reliable.
As the thermal store itself is open vented (even on a sealed heating system version), it removes the need for compliance with Building Regulation G, section 3 with regards to D1 & D2 pressure temperature relief safety discharge pipework, making it exceptionally versatile when it comes to the location of the appliance within the property. Unlike an unvented cylinder, the MULTIflow doesn’t require an annual service, and that was also a huge factor in recommending the MULTIflow.
Having no complicated circuit boards controlling the hot water production, the MULTIflow allowed Midland Boilercare Ltd to re-use the clients existing controls and retain their familiarity with operating the system.
As Midland Boilercare Ltd always strive to provide the most energy efficient solutions it can to its clients, it was quite simple to configure the system pipework within the MULTIflow casing to enable the water within the thermal store to only be heated for hot water demand via a programmer, but not be heated when there was only a demand for central heating (similar to an S plan), giving the most efficient way to use the heating system.
The MULTIflow is available for use with both open vented heating systems as well as sealed heating systems, and as both models have the same physical footprint it makes our task of assessing the installation requirements so much easier.

“Midland Boilercare Ltd have been installing McDonald Water Storage products for a number of years and have always been delighted with the quality of their products and the service provided.
They have the ability to produce bespoke units to meet our exact installation requirements with regard to shape and size of their thermal stores and hot water cylinders, together with exactly where we would like the pipework connections top be located was a great help to use when we replaced a leaking Elson tank in an apartment block in Leicester. The team at McDonald Water Storage were able to build an almost identical unit for us to install with only a minimal amount of pipework alterations.
