Our THERMflow thermal store provided the answer when Karis Beattie required a hot water solution when renovating a croft house in her local village.
BACKGROUND
It was determined after a discussion regarding her requirements, that a thermal store would be the ideal solution for Karis, who was renovating a derelict croft house in her local village of Cromor, Isle of Lewis. The thermal store was replacing a large copper cylinder that had been in situ since around the 1940’s and was no longer up to the job.
SOLUTION
Working together with Karis and alongside the merchant William Wilson in Stornoway, we designed and manufactured a bespoke Copper 250 Litre THERMflow complete with a domestic hot water coil and extra tappings for external plate heat exchangers to future proof the unit.
Karis mentioned that mains pressure to the taps and shower was particularly important to her and this is one of the reasons why a thermal store was the perfect solution. It was also important to Karis to have a system where the multi-fuel stove could be used alongside future heat sources. A mix of peat and wood will be used in the stove – reliability is paramount in a rural island location.
Not only do thermal stores provide mains pressure water, they require no annual maintenance, are extremely easy to install and provide excellent heat retention and lower amounts of heat loss.

Manufactured from premium grade copper, our THERMflow mains pressure hot water system delivers unrivalled performance thanks, in part, to copper’s superior thermal transfer properties and natural bacteria killing capabilities.
However one of the key advantages is the extra long copper coil which we incorporate into every THERMflow cylinder. This ensures the water heats up quicker than other thermal storage system, achieves a higher temperature, improves efficiency and reduces ongoing costs.
Karis enrolled the help of her local plumber and next door neighbour, Callum Masson to install the unit for her.
Cromore (Scottish Gaelic: Crò Mòr) is a crofting township on the Isle of Lewis in the district of Pairc, in the Outer Hebrides, Scotland. The settlement is within the parish of Lochs.[1] Cromore is about 27 miles away by road from Stornoway, the nearest town.
Cromore is an active crofting township close to one of Scotland’s National Scenic Areas. Its wild and unspoiled beauty make it a draw for tourists.
