The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, a world-renowned medical centre which specialises in cancer care and treatment, recently had a hot water cylinder that required urgent replacement. As the unit was unable to be repaired onsite, they required a replacement immediately to meet the requirements of over a thousand patients a week.
With this in mind, they needed a company with both the skills and facility to turn around the cylinder as a matter of urgency.
We were specified by DKL Mechanical Ltd and manufactured a like for like bespoke replacement in the form of a 400L Copper Buffer Vessel in just one week from the confirmation of the order. The cylinder was designed to operate at a maximum of 4 bar working pressure, including an internal inspection manhole for future maintenance.
A quick turnaround was imperative for the centre, and we managed to accommodate their requirements accordingly.

The Christie is one of Europe’s leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. They provide a regional service and have ambitions nationally and internationally. They are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, but as a national specialist around a quarter of their patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. The Christie became an NHS Foundation Trust in 2007 and is also an international leader in cancer research and development, home to the Paterson Institute for Cancer Research.
