We have always promoted the fantastic properties of copper cylinders with its extremely long lifespan due to its amazing resistance to corrosion, in addition to the mechanical and physical properties of copper and its alloys are maintained indefinitely. This has been proven with some recent feedback from two customers.
The first instance being a POWERflow unvented cylinder installed in the home of Alan McIntosh, former SNIPEF president. Alan had the unit bespoke designed and manufactured in 1994. Although the property was three bedrooms with an en-suite and separate bathroom, the unit volume was only specified at 120 litres as it had been designed with a high recovery boiler coil to provide a faster reheat, therefore saving space within the property. It was great to hear that 26 years later it is still producing hot water for the household.
The second customer was an installer who advised that one of our old vented cylinders had been removed from a property. Initially we were disappointed to hear this until we spoke to the installer and he advised that the cylinder had been part of an upgrade project for the house, including the boiler and heating system, and the home owner wanted to increase their hot water capacity. He advised that there was nothing wrong with the cylinder that was taken out, but he wanted to highlight that the unit was over 40 years old and still going strong!! Needless to say, the replacement cylinder was one of ours.
When it comes to hot water cylinders, copper is certainly proven to be the material of choice.
