Mar Hall Hotel Doubles Down on PLATEflow Technology from McDonald Water Storage
When a prestigious five-star hotel demands a reliable and efficient hot water system, only the best will do. That’s why Mar Hall Golf and Spa Resort turned once again to McDonald Water Storage, selecting a second PLATEflow unit to meet the high demands of their luxury hospitality environment.
The order was fulfilled in collaboration with Alba Facilities Services Ltd, who had previously specified the same system for the hotel in September 2024. Following the success of the first installation, it wasn’t long before Mar Hall requested a second unit to further support their operations.

This most recent PLATEflow installation included:
-
A copper storage vessel measuring 1950 x 600mm
-
A 200kW brazed plate heat exchanger
-
Constant flow rate of 0.86 litres/second
-
A charging pump, flow regulator, and connecting pipework
The PLATEflow system is part of McDonald Water Storage’s commercial water heater range, specially designed to manage fluctuating hot water demand—making it ideal for high-occupancy venues like hotels and spas. Each unit is built to exact client specification and comes pre-assembled, available as either a vented tank-fed unit or an unvented model fed from mains or a boosted cold supply.
Situated in Erskine House, a category A listed building in Bishopton, Renfrewshire, Mar Hall blends historic elegance with modern luxury. Following a £15 million refurbishment, the estate was transformed into a five-star destination in 2004. The resort features a swimming pool, gym, and an 18-hole championship golf course that regularly hosts Pro-Am tournaments.
The continued partnership with Mar Hall highlights McDonald Water Storage’s commitment to providing tailored, high-performance solutions for the UK’s most prestigious hospitality venues.
