The unique flexibility of a bespoke designed thermal store provided the perfect solution to meet the heating and hot water requirements at the Turkey Farmhouse in Warwick, to replace their existing heat bank cylinder due to corrosion.
Designed to be installed within a loft space, it not only had to provide the volume requirements but also fit through the existing loft hatch, therefore McDonald Water Storage was the manufacturer of choice with our extensive thermal store experience.
Due to the complex requirements of the system, not just the heating and hot water supply, but also incorporating multiple heat sources, they required our experience to help identify the perfect hot water solution to meet their specific needs.
One of the customers main considerations was to fit the replacement unit into a very limited loft space through the loft hatch. Our CUBEflow thermal store was the perfect answer as, not only did the rectangular design allow for the access restrictions, but also suited the space within the loft as they are specifically suited to maximise restricted spaces by taking up to 27% less space than a cylinder of equivalent volume.
The 350 litre CUBEflow certainly met its ‘multi fuel’ requirement, by incorporating inputs not only from an oil fired condensing boiler, solar thermal system and 3kW LWD immersion heater, but also an innovative option of taking heat from a cooling jacket around an industrial computer onsite.
The CUBEflow, measuring 700mm wide, 500mm deep and 1900mm high, finished with 50mm insulation and white casing, was used to provide not only mains pressure hot water via an external plate heat exchanger, but also two radiator circuits in addition to an underfloor heating system.
The benefits for the homeowner will continue for years to come, with no requirement for costly annual maintenance on the thermal store as associated with unvented solutions, and the peace of mind that the unit will deliver the hot water with no risk of scalding or legionella.
